A new innovation from Lignacite Ltd means that householders can save money on maintenance at the same time as providing a habitat for song birds.
Roofs on houses are important nesting sites for many species of birds as well as bats. Unfortunately, due to modern construction methods and new materials, many creatures are finding it increasingly difficult to find somewhere to nest. Once common birds – such as starlings and house-sparrows – are now red-listed by the RSPB as their numbers dwindle because of the loss of suitable nesting sites. In an attempt to stop this trend, the RSPB recommends that thought is given to providing suitable nesting sites as part of a building or renovation project.
RoofBLOCK’s unique design makes it a perfect way to provide nesting sites for a variety of birds and bats without compromising the strength or durability of the roof. Units are now available with holes designed to attract great tits, sparrows, robins, starlings, wrens and blue tits. A version designed for bats, with an opening in the bottom, is also available. The new ‘nest’ blocks are sealed units, so there is no risk of birds or bats making their way into your attic or underneath the tiles.
