Crome Court comprises of 232 en-suite student residential accommodation with kitchen and dining rooms and a communal facility, arranged in 5 to 7 storey’s in a south facing U shaped configuration and was a turn-key delivered project.
The project is special because of the innovative design, the application of technology, and construction methods that have enhanced the project and made a positive contribution to the project objectives: to achieve very high standards of sustainability within a challenging £9m construction budget and to a very fast programme of 22 months from concept to completion.

The building’s superstructure is constructed in CLT (cross laminated timber) that is faced in a low maintenance mix of blockwork, render and aluminum panels on a background of engineered insulation.

The building is formed in CLT to reduce the embodied carbon and to enable a rapid form of construction to deliver the project within the programme. CLT panels capture and store carbon, which can then be offset by the carbon emissions of the building. The design team was responsible for ensuring an integrated and holistic approach to the design and development of the scheme through innovation and technology to limit the buildings impact.
A BREEAM Excellent rating was required as part of the brief, and an energy brief worked up in line with the UEA environmental policies and carbon reduction plans to promote sustainable design.

Lignacite’s Premier Silver Grey block was used on the building and we are hoping to be involved with LSI Architects again on the next phase.
