Lignacite have had some early wins at the Olympics, being specified on no fewer than 6 of the venues. On the main stadium our Lignacite concrete block was chosen and this contains 50% recycled material including graded wood particles.
Every 1m2 of 100mm Lignacite blockwork locks up 12.3kg of C02. This block was also used on the Stratford Retail Centre and the Handball Arena in its 140mm module which comes in under 20kg and so complies with manual handling regulations. Not only do these blocks contain high levels of recycled material, but they are made at our factory in Nazeing which is the closest Block Plant to the Olympic park, thus cutting down significantly on transport costs and emissions.
Our Architectural Masonry has been used at the Velodrome both for its aesthetic appeal and robust performance.
Perhaps most exciting of all has been the use of one of our newest ranges of recycled glass masonry. This has been specified for the Olympic Village and is to be used in the walls and floors. This is a highly decorative yet durable product that combines good looks and sustainability.
