Environmental Commitment & Policy

Our sustainability performance is a top priority, and we're dedicated to improving it in partnership with our suppliers and customers. This involves closely monitoring our operational activities and the products we produce to identify and address any potential risks to our employees, the general public, and the environment. Our goal is to minimise the impact of our operations and ensure that we take every step towards enhancing our sustainability credentials and ultimately protecting our planet.

Our Pledge

The government has set a legal deadline of reaching carbon neutrality (net zero) by 2050. At Lignacite, we have committed to accelerating this race so that our facilities, processes and products are carbon neutral by 2030, a full 20 years before the government’s target.

Our Policy

Our Environmental Policy lays out the specifics of our ambitions. In addition to complying with all current and future legal requirements, we will:

1 of 4

Promote environmental awareness throughout the organisation

Increase the use of raw materials from sustainable sources

Reduce energy use and choose low-carbon aggregates

Switch to low-carbon energy sources where practicable

Reduce waste through recycling

Reduce water consumption wherever possible

Control and reduce air emissions

Recover, recycle and reuse waste materials wherever possible

Environmental Risk Mitigation

We will take all practical steps to ensure that potential hazards and risks to the environment are identified and that suitable and effective preventative and control measures are implemented. All employees will be provided with the necessary resources, equipment, information, instruction and training to fulfil the requirements of this policy.

Our commitment to the protection of the environment is expanded upon in our Sustainability Policy.

Our Commitment

Concern for the environment and the promotion of a broader sustainability agenda are integral to our professional activities and management. We aim to follow and promote good sustainability practices to reduce the environmental impacts of all our activities.

1 of 3

Maintain a sustainable use of raw materials and aggregates, focusing on increasing our use of secondary and recycled aggregates.

Continuously monitor all energy usage and implement improvement programs.

Switch to low-carbon energy sources where practicable

Prioritise the use of low carbon and secondary/recycled aggregates over primary aggregates.

Reduce the need for staff to travel to meetings by using modern teleconferencing and video conferencing technology.

Continuously strive towards becoming a totally paperless environment.

BSI ISO 14001 Accreditation

BSI ISO 14001

As part of our commitment to managing and improving our environmental performance, we have achieved certification to ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management. We also ensure that, where possible, manufacturing potential is maximised through the use of recovered and recycled waste materials. This reduces the amount sent to landfill. Renewable energy is also used to reduce our reliance on primary energy.
